About Carol Bues Carol Bues
Carol Bues is a Licensed Midwife (LM), Certified as a Nurse-Midwife (CNM) by the American College of Nurse Midwives. She is also licensed as Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) and Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of New York. Her education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, City University of New York and Master of Science in Nurse-Midwifery, State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn. She has been practicing midwifery since 2001.
Carol recently started studies at SUNY Stony Brook for her DNP (Doctorate of Nursing Practice) with an anticipated graduation date of May 2019.
Carol is currently an Adjunct Clinical Professor and was recently appointed as an Adjunct Lecturer at Hunter Bellevue School of Nursing. She really enjoys teaching aspiring nursing students that birth can be normal (even in hospitals!) along with all the complications.
Before co-founding MCNYC, Carol worked in private practice at Roosevelt Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In her many years of experience, Carol also worked as a staff midwife at Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center, Mount Sinai Hospital and Bellevue Hospital. Her experience is in the practice of full-scope antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum midwifery care and in preceptorship of midwifery students from Columbia University, New York University and SUNY Downstate. She also spent over four years providing well-woman gynecologic care, family planning, STI testing and treatment, and postoperative care at Planned Parenthood of NYC. Carol is certified in neonatal resuscitation and in childbirth education. She served as treasurer of the local NYC chapter of the American College of Nurse Midwives from 2005-2007. She was on the board and serving as Treasurer of New York State Association of Licensed Midwives (NYSALM) from 2015-2017.
Most importantly, Carol is the mother of two children caught by a home birth LM in 2000 and 2002 in NYC. She formerly home schooled both of her children through middle school and was an active participant of the NYC homeschooling community. Staring in 2013, Carol has volunteered at Forestdale Inc., ” a family services organization committed to breaking the cycle of poverty and trauma that afflicts generations of families in Queens.” At Forestdale, Carol participates in and facilitates teen groups in the Passport to Parenting Program. Carol became a volunteer for MMBNE (Mothers Milk Bank New England) in 2015. If there is any spare time after all of this and baby catching, Carol spends it knitting, reading, and trying to figure out how to parent two NYC teenagers and their golden retriever.
